Legal counsel - banking & payments

Our client, a leading player in the Financial Services sector, is looking for a Legal Counsel to support its banking and payment services activities. You will provide practical legal advice, support regulatory compliance, review contracts, and work closely with business stakeholders on day-to-day legal matters and projects.
This position is ideal for a legal professional with 3-5 years of experience in the banking, payments, or financial services sector.

Key responsibilities

• Regulatory & legal advice:
  • Monitor Belgian and European banking regulations.
  • Advise internal teams on legal and compliance matters.
  • Support the implementation of new regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and help mitigate legal risks.
• Contracts & documentation:
  • Review and draft contracts, policies, terms & conditions, and legal documentation.
  • Ensure customer communications and business materials comply with applicable regulations.
  • Support the launch of new products and services from a legal perspective.
• Stakeholder support:
  • Partner with Business, Compliance, Risk, and Operations teams.
  • Provide clear, pragmatic, and business-oriented legal guidance.
  • Support projects requiring legal input.
• Complaints & disputes:
  • Assist in managing customer complaints and legal disputes.
  • Coordinate with external counsel when required.

Your profile

• Master's Degree in Law
• 3-5 years of legal experience within banking, payments, financial services, or another regulated environment
• Good knowledge of Belgian and European financial regulations
• Experience in contract drafting and review
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• Pragmatic, solution-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Languages:

• • Native-level Dutch or French
  • Good knowledge of the other national language
  • English is an asset
