As a Virtualization & Storage System Engineer, you are responsible for the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of the virtualization and backup infrastructure across multiple data centers.

We are currently looking for a Virtualization & Storage System Engineer to strengthen our infrastructure team and ensure the performance, availability, and resilience of our IT systems.

Your mission

As a Virtualization & Storage System Engineer, you are responsible for the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of the virtualization and backup infrastructure across multiple data centers.

You ensure that hosted systems run in a secure, highly available, and optimized environment.

Your responsibilities Infrastructure & Operations

• Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for virtualization and backup platforms
• Design, manage, and maintain VMware vSphere and Nutanix AHV environments
• Implement and maintain high availability and clustering solutions
• Monitor and optimize performance, capacity, and storage usage
• Manage and operate data center infrastructure and hosted environments

Backup & Data Protection

• Design and operate enterprise backup and restore solutions for virtual environments
• Define and enforce backup SLAs, RPO, and RTO objectives
• Manage backup policies, retention strategies, restore procedures, and reporting
• Oversee archiving and long-term data retention strategies
• Collaborate on Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP) and recovery scenarios
• Participate in DR testing and continuous improvement of recovery processes

?? Automation & Optimization

• Automate provisioning of virtual infrastructure and operational tasks
• Develop scripts for backup, restore, monitoring, and maintenance activities
• Improve operational efficiency through standardization and automation

Continuity & Improvement

• Proactively manage incidents and communicate clearly in case of SLA risks or breaches
• Contribute to infrastructure continuity and security initiatives
• Participate in DR exercises and ensure recovery readiness

Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

• Document operational procedures for support teams
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams
• Share knowledge and contribute to technical discussions and team meetings
• Ensure smooth handover of operational tasks and information

Jouw profiel

Your profile

• Minimum 7 years of experience as a Virtualization System Engineer, including at least 2 years in a senior role with technical responsibility
• Strong expertise in VMware vSphere and/or Nutanix AHV
• Solid experience with backup and data protection solutions, including SLA, RPO, RTO, and archiving
• Good knowledge of SAN and storage technologies
• Solid understanding of Windows Server in virtualized environments
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, etc.)
• Experience with enterprise monitoring and reporting tools
• Strong analytical mindset and interest in new technologies
• Ability to prioritize effectively based on urgency and business impact
• Customer-oriented and solution-driven approach

Languages

• Dutch or French: passive understanding of at least one national language required
• English: professional proficiency
